Since its inception in 2001, the AJC Alumni Association has always been looking
into ways to maintain close association with the college and provide support by
pecuniary or other means, which may be needed for the college's development and
well being. As the "A" level examinations draw near, we hope to work with our
alma mater and look into ways to provide support to the current batch of
The Alumni Tutoring Program was implemented in 2006 by AJCAA. Over the last
decade, more than 170 tutors have helped to prepare over 500 JC2 students for
the A' Levels! This is clearly a strong display of the "Non Mihi Solum" spirit!

Below are testimonials from tutees who have participated in the AJCAA Tutoring
Programme. We thank all the tutor volunteers who have contributed and wish
all the tutees all the best in their future endeavor.
"I enjoyed my time as a peer tutor. It gave me a taste of what the life of a
teacher was like and taught me the virtues of patience and
simplification. I was really proud and happy for my student when he
managed to get an A for his 'A' Level."
"This programme gave me an opportunity to be updated about the current
developments at AJC as well as a chance to meet my juniors as well as
the teachers who used to teach me. For those who aspire to be a teacher next
time, this would be an invaluable experience!"
"The alumni tutoring programme is important as it gives the students the
opportunity to learn time management and study habits from us. Since we have
completed the A' levels, we are better able to empathise with
their situation and help them see questions from a different
angle, which can make all the difference. Lastly, just being there as
a peer whom they can talk to and ask for advice is something the
students really appreciate."
"The satisfaction I get from seeing my tutees understand the concepts I have
taught is the motivational factor that has kept me involved in this programme
for the past 2 years. It is also a great opportunity to give back to our alma
mater, and share my passion in the various subjects"
"The alumni tutoring programme has helped me pull through the tough periods
leading to the A levels. Having been heavily involved in my CCA activities, I
found it very hard to catch up with school work and did not perform up to my
expectations during MYCT. I am grateful not only for the academic support that
the seniors have provided us, but also the words of encouragement and
motivation for me to do my very best. I am also deeply touched by how AJCians
still demonstrate the Non Mihi Solum spirit even after they have graduated from
— Alumni Tutoring Programme Student (Batch of 2012/2013),
achieved a rank point of 81.25 in the GCE A level Exam. 4 Grade improvement
for the subject tutored.
"I went for the alumni peer tutoring programme and the tutoring subjects I
took were Chemistry and Mathematics. This programme has benefitted me greatly.
My tutor, Mr Han Swee Yee has put in a lot of effort in guiding me. He helped
me revise concepts and he was also very clear in his explanations. He never
failed to answer all my queries and was very professional in conveying his
thought process. Although my results for the A levels were not well done, I
have improved a lot. Hence, I was accepted by a local university of my choice.
I am also very grateful to Mr Han Swee Yee for going over and beyond the call
of duty in meeting me and my friend outside of school to give us additional
tutoring beyond the stipulated time for this alumni tutoring programme.
In addition, I also have to thank Mr Kenneth Lee Yong Chang for letting me join
his group for math tutoring when Mr Han Swee Yee was unable to make it on 2
occasions. Mr Kenneth Lee was very clear in all the math concepts and was able
to solve all the math questions posed to him. He was very patient in teaching
us and he has put in a tremendous effort in helping us in mathematics."
— Chan Jia Min (Tutee), PDG 16/11
"I am really grateful for the tutoring programme because it serves as a
platform for me to voice out my burning questions in chemistry and physics
because towards the prelims, the tutors are usually very busy and I find it
hard to schedule consultations with them sometimes. I am thankful to my tutor,
Cheng Yang for his patience in explaining difficult chemistry concepts and
making the lessons overall an enjoyable one. Even though I might have only
attended around four sessions in total, it has been beneficial to me because I
learnt new things and new ways to make the concepts much simpler.
This is a really good programme for AJCians to help one another. Non Mihi Solum!"
— Cynthia Ho Sin Tian (Tutee), PDG 01/11

"I am really glad that I had made the right choice back then of going for the
tutoring program that AJC Alumni organizes annually to help students excel in
their 'A' Levels Examinations. A 3-hour tutoring session weekly really helped
me to clear my misconceptions as well as my doubts for Economics. Definitely,
hard work is also needed in order to excel in the examinations, but attending
the weekly sessions really helps to make learning a lot easier. From a student
who barely passed Economics to one who managed to secure an 'A' during the 'A'
Levels, I am really thankful for the tutoring sessions that I attended and of
course not forgetting the help from my Economics teacher. As the examination
date draws nearer, I am sure that most of you out there would be starting to
feel stress and less confident of yourself. Not to worry, there is always this
tutoring program that the Alumni have kindly organized for you all to join. I
am sure you all will benefit from it just like how I benefitted from it last
— Ng Jing Shi, PDG 23/09 (Economics)
"I took part in the AJCAA Tutoring Programme in 2010. Through this programme,
it provides me with an alternative channel to clarify my doubts and allows me
to practice more. It supports my studies by giving me more opportunities to
explore the concepts thoroughly so that I can easily clear my misconceptions.
It has indeed helped me to achieve good results and I am really thankful for
the time and effort put in by the organising committee and my tutor in this

"I was a student who benefited from the AJCAA Tutoring Programme 2010. I felt
the program has benefited all students in general as it acts as a platform for
us students to learn and improve on our weaker subjects from our very own
seniors. I am very grateful for the time and effort put in by the volunteer
tutors! Kudos! :)"
— Chia Pei Jun, PDG 33/09 (Geography)
"Through the AJCAA Tutoring Program, I have managed to gain a better
understanding of Physics concepts as the tutors of are nearer age to us hence
making it easier for us to communicate and discuss ideas. The tuition program
has been an excellent platform for me to raise any doubts that I had regarding
any Physics assignment. The tuition conducted in groups made learning more
engaging and easier as we could discuss and debate about the answers of the
questions. Lastly, through this program I was also able to ask my tutor
questions out of the subject e.g. Math questions and also questions out of
syllabus. The tutor also had additional resources which had helped to
facilitate my understanding and improve my problem solving skills."
— Tay Jie Xin Joyce, PDG 08/09 (Physics)
"The AJC Alumni session gave me a chance to revise intensively for Geography on
weekends. For four hours, we get to ask any questions on the topics not only
taught in JC2, but also those in JC1. We also got to try out questions in the
past-years prelim papers and A-Level Exams that have not been covered in class.
During the peer tutoring session, we would have many engaging discussions on
any concepts that we were unsure about. The tutor not only revised with us the
content knowledge needed to handle the question but also the way to structure
the answer. He is also well-prepared with a ten-year series book by the side
for reference and for occasions where he will guide us through some interesting
